IIM fear losing faculty to foreign universities

New Delhi, October 16: With the government planning to bring a bill to allow foreign universities in the country, IIM directors today expressed the fear that they may lose their faculty to such institutions offering fatter pay packets.

During their meeting with HRD Minister Kapil Sibal, the directors wanted regulations in place to maintain level- playing field between foreign universities, which would set up campuses in the country, and the domestic institutions.

“We apprehending that the foreign universities may offer fat salary to faculty and our teachers may join them.

We said there should be a level-playing field between all institutions,” an IIM director said.

Sibal said IIMs have to be prepared for competition but assured the interest of domestic institutions will be safeguarded, he said.

“Under the Foreign Education Providers Bill, there will be separate procedure for the foreign universities which want to come here.
