Bengaluru: Prohibitory protest orders under Section 144 on Friday had a lot of uncertainty, waiting for reactions from the IIM Bengaluru students.
The orders made it clear there won’t be any protests as the students had been ‘cautioned’ against their presence in the protests and their future placements, NDTV reports.
The scene at the IIM was calm with no gatherings except a couple of policemen placed at the gates.
And a Professor walks out carrying a blank pink poster and laid it down quietly outside the campus wall, took off his shoes and left them alongside the poster.
As the professor went inside, two students appear helping the other as he was in a wheelchair. Just like what the professor before them did, the students remove their shoes along with a blank poster and the same continued for other students.
While some brought flowers to leave alongside their shoes with posters, placards outside the main gate of the campus.
People waited for their turn inside the gate to avoid violating the prohibitory orders under Section 144 imposed in the region.
A professor at the institute told media: “The Citizens Amendment Act and NRC is changing who we are. I view this as a pedagogical moment. A chance to get my students to speak out about civic issues. Universities should be neutral. We should allow pro-CAA protests if needed. Although this is actually a non-protest!”
