IIIT Basara student hang herself, blamed lecturer

Bagli Swapna (18),a 2nd year student at IIIT Basara, Adilabad, committed suicide by hanging herself at Usirakapally village of Manur mandal in Medak on Tuesday. Police found a suicide letter from her room, in which she alleged that mental harassment by her lecturer, Vijayabhanu, had forced her to take the extreme step.

Swapna also writes in her letter that a first-year student had committed suicide on January 15, because of Lecturer behavior. According to police on February 1, Vijayabhanu called Swapna’s mother Sangamma to the college and told her that Swapna’s behaviour was dissolute and she should be removed from the college rolls permanently.

Deeply hurt by the lecturer’s comments and attitude, Swapna came back home and hanged herself when her parents was out of home.

Devastated after seeing her daughter dead and after reading her suicide note, Swapna father demanded a probe into the suicide and immediate action against the college management.

Mudhole and Basara police visited the college and began an inquiry.
