‘If women not safe in AAP leader’s home, is she safe outside’, asks BJP

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Wednesday said that the charges of domestic violence levelled against Aam Aadmi Party leader Somnath Bharti raises serious questions with regards to their strategy to tackle crime against women.

“Though this is a personal, family matter and we should not interfere in it, this is not the first time such a charge has been levelled against an AAP leader. It raises the question of how much respect they have for women. They talk a lot about respecting women but when a woman does not feel safe inside her own house, how can they guarantee her safety outside?” BJP leader Satish Upadhyay told ANI.

Earlier in the day, the Delhi Commission for Women served notice to Bharti after his wife Lipika Mitra accused him of domestic violence.

Lipika has alleged that she has been facing violence at the hands of Bharti since 2010 and has said that she wants a separation in order to live with her children ‘with dignity’. (ANI)
