YSR Congress chief Y S Vijayamma has condemned the state government for trying to do away with the fees reimbursement scheme her late husband Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy has introduced for offering higher education to the poor.
Speaking after ending her two-day ‘Fees Deeksha’ here on Tuesday, she said YSR had always felt that the funds allotted for fees reimbursement as a social investment. While he had considered it with the great ideal of offering opportunities of higher education to the poor, the present government was considering this to be a burden as if they were paying their own money, she has lamented. She has demanded that the fees of every eligible student be reimbursed. She said it was sad that the government was unable to announce the engineering counseling dates so far.
Vijayamma has alleged that during the past three years, the schemes introduced by YSR were being deleted one after the other. Stating that YSR was large hearted, she said he had given guarantee of life to many. She has reminded that her late husband had sanctioned money from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to every one who has asked for help on health grounds. Vijayamma shed tears several times during her speech. (NSS)
