God helps those who help themselves. 50-year-old Lakshmi hails from Andhra. She is presently residing in Hyderabad with her husband Satyanarayan. She has studied till 7th class from Telugu medium. She sells ‘jowar ki roti’ on a table at Vinay Colony, Santoshnagar. Gradually she expanded her business on the demand of customers and started making vegetable curry. She works from 7 to 9 in the evening and earns about Rs. 300 a day. She sells jowar ki roti and vegetable curry near a hostel where inmates of the hostel get home-made food at a very low cost.
Lakshmi has brought along with her a girl from her village who helps Lakshmi in her work. She not only looks after the girl but sends her to school. This way Lakshmi has become the patron of a poor girl who otherwise could not have got education. On the demand of her customers, Lakshmi has also started preparing wheat roti. Lakshmi has proved that with courage and hard work, nothing is impossible.
