New Delhi: Discussing the current situation of the country and Muslims, Former Union Minister for Minority Welfare Rahman Khan, said if the awqaf are set right, the situation of Muslims will improve and they will lead a prosperous life. Rahman Khan who represented the community in Rajya Sabha for 24 years narrated his experiences to the press persons. He said they tried to make amendment in Awqaf law and passed Waqf amendment act 2013, which has many benefits, many of them community is not aware of. He said, earlier there was no Waqf lease system, people would do whatever they wish, but now lease would be according to market value. If the lease contract comes to an end, tenant has to vacate the property, if he doesn’t, legal action could be taken against them under criminal offence. If anyone grabs the Waqf land, non-bailable warrant could be issued against him.
Mr. Rahman said we have awqaf, if we set it right, all the problems of the community will be solved. Mr. Khan also lamented on the carelessness of the community, he said had the community awakened and benefited from the rights guaranteed by the constitution we would have no problem left.
