Hyderabad, April 07: An ‘incomplete’ Improvised Explosive Device (IED) found close to the Uppal stadium, the venue of IPL matches, on May 3 has had the Cyberabad Police on their toes, literally.
A hand-written note beside the object warned of a terror strike in Hyderabad, which sources say, is being dismissed as a prank.
Sources told Express that around 3 a.m on May 3, security personnel stumbled upon a box in a plastic packet on a barricade 80-ft outside the stadium. Wires sticking out of the package led the sleuths to press the panic button. A team of forensic experts was pressed into service. Upon opening the box, they found the wires tagged to a cellphone. But the alarming aspect was the box contained ball bearings, a battery and some chemical, said to be grease.
“Except a detonator and explosive material, all the other components were in place,” the sources said.
Some investigators described it as an IED-like object.
Though some sleuths dismissed it as a prank, a few others pointed out that whosoever had assembled the material has knowledge of explosives. “It can’t be taken lightly,” they cautioned.
