Identify vulnerable buildings in Delhi: LG to civic bodies

New Delhi: Delhi Lt Governor Anil Baijal today directed civic bodies to physically check vulnerable buildings in the city and introduce measures to incentivise their up-gradation.

Baijal directed authorities to incorporate standards of structural safety in the building bye-laws in the national capital in view of the potent risk of earthquakes in Delhi, which is a Seismic Zone-IV region.

The Lt Governor also asked the revenue department and the Delhi Police to explore the possibility of setting up a State Disaster Response Force, besides identification of adequate number of disaster shelters at various locations in Delhi.

The directions were issued at a meeting of the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), chaired by Baijal.
The meeting was attended by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and senior officers from the departments concerned.

Baijal asked the agencies to work in a concerted manner to achieve optimum coordination and results, besides ensuring that response systems remain on-guard and keep a vigil at all times.
