Kochi, August 21: The Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) has been at the forefront in the development of corporate professionals well-versed in the management of the company, Kerala Law Minister M Vijayakumar said today.
Inaugurating the Kerala State Conference of Company Secretaries, here, Vijayakumar said like the engineers, doctors and scientists and other professionals, Company Secretaries too will have to face the global competition and take it as a challenge.
‘The role of Company Secretaries as Corporate Professional is very critical to the financial market, market participants, investors and shareholders, who look upto you for high quality information, which ensures market discipline and fosters confidence of various stakeholders’, he said.
Unless Indian firms come to be recognised worldwide for good corporate governance, they will not be able to compete globally in an increasingly inter-dependent world, he said.
The dynamism of a globalised capital market and the emergence of a knowledge based economy and society have posed major challenges for accurate and speedy financial and legal reporting, he said.
India has made a mark in the services sector and must acquire the top slot in terms of excellence, professionalism, speed quality and above all, reliability and integrity of service provider, he said.
