ICC to monitor Pak World T20 matches for betting

Lahore, May 01: The ICC plans to keep an eye on all matches involving Pakistan during the World Twenty20 championships in order to prevent betting and match fixing.

”We have received a schedule of Pakistan cricket team matches and our vigilance team will be closely observing the developments within Pakistan relating to alleged betting which is a financial crime,” a senior official of the ICC Anti-Corruption Unit told the ‘Dawn’.

The official also informed that all the agency’s offices in Pakistan will moniter the situation in the country and will take action upon receiving credible information from their sources over alleged betting during the ongoing World Twenty20 matches.

”We will take action against betting houses or their owners including the people who are involved in the alleged matching fixing scam besides tracking down all those who are involved in the match fixing racket,” he said.

The agency had reviewed all the developments related to the probe carried out by a committee formed under the direction of Pakistan Cricket Board chief Ijaz Butt to investigate the national team’s disastrous tour of Australia.
