IBSA countries to meet Palestinian FM

Brasilia, April 09: The Palestinian Authority’s foreign minister, Riyad al-Malki, will meet next week with his counterparts from India, Brazil and South Africa to discuss Middle East peace, Brazil’s foreign ministry announced Thursday.

The meeting of top diplomats takes place April 15 in the Brazilian capital ahead of a summit of leaders from the three nations to boost political and trade ties.

That meeting will gather Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, South African President Jacob Zuma and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Lula has taken an active interest in the Middle East Peace process, and traveled recently to the region where he met with Israeli, Palestinian and Jordanian leaders.

He has offered his government’s services in helping to resolve the Middle East impasse, but has said that his country would only play a role if “invited” to do so.
