The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs from Karnataka including former chief minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda met Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh here on Wednesday and urged him to order a CBI probe into IAS officer D.K. Ravi’s death case.
Gowda, who is presently the Union Law and Justice Minister, said that they have apprised the Home Minister of the present situation in Karnataka.
“We met the Home Minister and apprised him of the situation in Karnataka. We urged Rajnath Singh that a CBI inquiry should be instituted in IAS (officer) D.K. Ravi death case,” said Gowda.
“A dedicated and honest officer has been brutally murdered, that is the apprehension of people across the state. The state government is not taking initiatives and has started saying that it looks like suicide even without getting a report from the investigation agency,” he added.
BJP leader Ananth Kumar, who represents the Bangalore South Lok Sabha constituency in Karnataka, was also part of the delegation that called on the Home Minister.
“We urged Home Minister Rajnath Singh that a CBI inquiry should be instituted in IAS (officer) D.K. Ravi’s death case,” said Kumar.
“The Home Minister said that he is going to speak to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah ji and ask for the report from the state government,” he added.
The family members of the deceased IAS officer have demanded a CBI probe, suspecting foul play in his killing. The BJP is also demanding a CBI investigation into the case.
The Karnataka Government has, however, so far rejected the demand of a CBI probe and asserted that the CID of the state police is capable of handling the investigation in the case.
The 2009 batch IAS officer, who was deputed as the Joint Commissioner of the state’s Commercial Taxes Department, was found mysteriously hanging by a fan in the bedroom of his private apartment in South Bengaluru’s Tavarekere earlier on Monday. (ANI)
