New Delhi [India]: Eastern Air Command of IAF carried out fighter aircraft operations from civil airfields of Guwahati, Kolkata, and Andal, Air Force said on Wednesday.
“Aim was to validate the fighter operating procedure, familiarise the crew with airfields and exercise coordination with civil agencies for such operations,” IAF said in a tweet.
The two-day operations were conducted on May 01 and May 02. The frontline SU-30MKI aircraft operated from Kolkata and Guwahati, and the Hawk jets from Andal airfield.
The fighters carried out both day and night flying operations during the exercise.
The exercise was carried out to remain prepared for any eventuality.
The Indian military is now revamping its doctrines and preparedness to deal with threats on the eastern border shifting its focus from the western borders.
The Indian Air Force is set to induct Rafale fighter jets in September this year. A squadron of these jets will be based out of Hashimara to counter challenges from the eastern border.
