‘I stand ready to register as Muslim’: Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright

WASHINGTON:  Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright  on Wednesday has said she is prepared to register as a Muslim if President Trump forces them(Muslims) to register.

Albright explained in a post shared on Twitter: “I was raised Catholic, became Episcopalian and found out later my family was Jewish. I stand to ready to register as Muslim in solidarity”.

In another tweet, she also shared the poem on the Statue of Liberty, which says: “Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. “Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door.”

Nation’s top diplomat during the Clinton administration, Albright, 79, was the vocal critic of Trump in the US election.

Big Bang Theory actress Mayim Bialik aslo echoed and said: “I’m Jewish. I stand ready to register as a Muslim in solidarity if it comes to that.”

The sentiments of solidarity are in response to Donald Trump’s efforts to temporary ban on refugees from seven predominantly Muslim countries(Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria or Yemen) and other foreigners from entering the United States. Other people have also come forward to register if necessary.
