New Delhi, Jun 17 : Her ‘closer-to-life’ portrayal in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Jab We Met’ may have catapulted her as among the top actresses in Bollywood today but for Kareena Kapoor there is nothing more challenging and exciting than playing a character in contrast to her real persona.
‘’Characters which are not similar to the way you are are more fun to do than those closer to your real life persona,’’says Kareena as she awaits the release of her much-in-the news film ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, in which she is playing the role of a glamorous model.
Directed by new director Sabbir Khan, ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, which is a much awaited film this year because of its grand settings and the presence in the cast of Hollywood actors Sylvester Stallone, Brandon Routh and Denise Richards, has Kareena playing a firebrand supermodel who is more than able to stare down the most arrogant male with her caustic wit and sardonic tongue.
‘’The character of Simrita that I play in ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is somewhat hot headed and aggressive which is quite different from the way I am in real life,’’ said Kareena during a visit to the capital this week to promote the film, which features her along with the current Bollywood favourite Akshay Kumar.
Asked for the reason for her increasingly featuring in glamorous appearances in films, from ‘Tashan’ to ‘Golmaal Returns’ to ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, Kareena, who was accompanied by the director of the film Sabbir Khan, said, is in career, ”in may career, i have done all kinds of films be it ‘Jab We Met’, ‘Omkara’, ‘Dev’, ‘Golmaal Returns’ or ‘Kambakkht Ishq’. Each of my films has been different from the other. Infact, I am an actress who would go to any length to meet the demands of a film and its script.’’ Set in the backdrop of Hollywood, ‘Kambakkht Ishq’, scheduled for release worldwide on July 3, explores the relationship between Hollywood stuntman Viraj Shergill (Akshay Kumar) and firebrand supermodel Simrita Rai (Kareena Kapoor), two individuals as different from each other as chalk and cheese. No matter how many times they are pushed together, there are only fireworks, no fire.
‘’Kambakkht Ishq’ is one of the most special movies for me not just in terms of cast but the way Shabbir has directed it and presented me, the way Akki Narula has styled me and most importantly, the way the character of Simrita has come out in the film. I would say that ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is fun, entertaining and has all the ingredients of being the superfilm of the year. I am sure Shabbir, me and Akshay have a winner on our hands,’’she said.
The film has also made news for the fact that Kareena has reportedly used 55 pairs of footwear in the film.
’’I am very fond of buying shoes. In my house itself, I have as many as 100 pair of shoes. Infact, Shabbir made me wear such stylish shoes and dresses in the film that are sure to make girls go crazy,’’ says the actress.
Shot on exotic locales in Los Angeles, Italy and Venice, with good dose of scenes shot in the world famous Hollywood studio, ‘the film marks a historical moment for Indian cinema.
‘Kambakkht Ishq’ is also the first film to feature Hollywood stars like Slyvester Stallone, Brandon Routh, Denise. The film also boasts of heart stopping stunts and action sequences created by top Hollywood stunt directors.
‘’The interesting incidents and events that have occurred during the filmming of ‘Kambakkht Ishq’ can be a book in itself,’’Shabbir Khan said.
Trade sources say the sheer grandeur and extravaganza that have gone to make the film is a matter of pride for any filmmaker.
Infact, Sajid Nadiadwala has left no stone unturned to make the film special. Right from the action scenes to the props, the producer has opted for all original stuff. Nadiadwala even got the same bike that Tom Cruise used in Mission Impossible.
’’In a scene shot recently, Akshay Kumar has used Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible bike. Sajid even hired action director Franco Soleman who created Tom Cruises stunt. The end result is to be seen to be believed,’’ revealed a source close to the film.
