I Lakh passengers to be hit after Indigo, Go air cancels 630 domestic flights

MUMBAI: Nearly 630 domestic flights will be closed down ahead next month’s travel peak season as submitted to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation on Thursday.

IndiGo and GoAir who are currently operating 1,200 flights covering 50% of domestic passengers will cancel close to 630 domestic flights this month details of canceled flights as posted on their official websites. The airlines are also offering refunds and alternative flights to its customers suffering from the inconvenience caused by the airlines.

Indigo has recently announced it is canceling 488 flights which include 36 daily flights while Go Air announced the cancellation of 138 flights which include six flights per week respectively between 15 March – 31 March and 15 March to 22 March.

Over the concerns raised by the Indian and European aviation regulators over the safety of Pratt and Whitney 1100 engines that power these airlines – A320neo aircraft, IndiGo had canceled 11 of its 180-seater A320neos aircraft, while GoAir grounded 3.

According to the recently recorded passenger load factor for both the airlines in January’s month, nearly 1 lakh passengers would experience inconvenience due to these the cancellations would hit an estimated 1 lakh passengers while the impact of cancellations will hit the passengers severely from next month once the airline summer schedule begins.
