I am inspired by Aamir Khan: Vidya Balan

With her powerful portrayals in ‘Guru’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’, ‘Paa’ and ‘The Dirty Picture’, she has created a distinct space for women characters in Indian films, wherein they are more than just the adjuncts of the hero or ‘a glamour element’ in the cinematic venture. Her ‘women of substance’ roles in films, the latest being Sujoy Ghosh’s ‘Kahaani’ which hit cinema screens today, have earned her the label of the ‘female Aamir Khan’. On her part, however, Vidya, says that being compared to Aamir Khan is a matter of honour for her. In fact, Vidya admits to being inspired by Aamir whether it be in her choice of films or the way she goes all out to market her films, be it ‘Paa’, ‘No One Killed Jessica’ or ‘The Dirty picture’. ‘While I do not know Aamir personally, I know that he uses different strategies to promote his films. ‘Admittedly, I am inspired by him,’ Vidya said in an interview to a television channel. Asked if she was consciously following the footsteps of Aamir, Vidya, who is riding on the success of her last film, said, ‘It is an honour that my name is clubbed with Aamir. I also give hundred per cent in my movies. Later, I promote my films very vigorously. For instance, I promoted ‘No One Killed Jessica’ with Rani Mukherjee in a big way.’ In an interview to News 24 channel for the weekly show ‘Aamne-Samne’, to be aired tonight as well as tomorrow, Vidya said she is eagerly awaiting an opportunity to work with the Khan trio of Aamir Khan, Shahrukh and Salman Khan. ‘Who would not like to work with them. It is an honour. Hopefully, we will find some good powerful script sooner rather than later,’ Vidya said. Talking about her latest film ‘Kahaani’, Vidya said ‘Kahaani’ was the story of a lady on her family way who is searching her missing husband.

‘The very thought of this scenario is frightening. That is the time in the life of every lady when she becomes like Durga,’ she said. Asked for her thoughts on motherhood given the fact that the story of ‘Kahaani’ is all about a pregnant lady, Vidya said she was waiting to become mother of her own kids though she was not ready to marry for one or two years. As a person, Vidya is deeply religious though she is no longer visit temples very often.

‘Well, I do not visit temples very often now as I know that God is everywhere. I think as I am evolving spiritually I am thinking this way,’ Vidya said. UNI
