Hyderabad: All the efforts of Zoo authorities to keep its inmates ‘thanda thanda, cool cool’ failed when a hyena died of sunstroke at the Nehru Zoological Park on Friday. According to the doctor who treated the hyena the exact reason for it’s death was not known, but it was suspected that it ultimately died due to heart failure.
The Times of India has quoted Dr Abdul Hakim, veterinary assistant director at the zoo, as saying, “Generally, animals like white tiger, birds and monkeys get affected the most due to the heat, but hyenas can withstand it. We have installed coolers and sprinklers in most enclosures.”
