Hyderabad: Woman cheats third husband, lands in jail

Hyderabad: A woman landed in jail after the Vanasthalipuram police arrested her on charges of cheating her husband.

“The woman had extracted Rs.6 lakh and 20 tolas of gold from her first husband to withdraw the dowry harassment case against him while the second husband had to dole out Rs.9 lakh. Before marrying Prakash Rao, she had allegedly maintained a relationship with a man from Pune, who had to pay up Rs.80,000 for not being implicated in a case,” said the Vanasthalipuram SI S. Murali Krishna.

Saritha, 37, a homoeopath, got arrested after her husband, Prakash Rao, lodged a counter complaint against her, proving that he had not harassed her for dowry and more importantly, that she had lodged similar complaints against her former husbands only to withdraw these after making them agree to financial settlements.

Rao, who was arrested by the police following Saritha’s complaint on July 31, was out on bail. He then did a background check on her, during which he found that she had used the same tactic against two of her former husbands in 2005 and 2011.

Prakash, the SI said, had gathered documentary evidence by consulting both her former husbands, following which the police registered a case of cheating under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code and arrested her.
