Hyderabad turning a global hardware network

The Telangana government ought to position Hyderabad as a `global hardware hub’ manufacturing electronic components and building products for global players as the city has designing and manufacturing capabilities, as said by J A Chowdary, Ficci Andhra Pradesh and Telangana co-chair on Thursday.

“At present, Taiwan and Korea act as original design manufacturers (ODM) for most of the products that are later branded by another firm for sale. Even we have the designing capabilities and want the government to cash in on this and set up a centre of excellence focused on hardware technology. If the requisite talent is available, MNCs will be attracted to Hyderabad,” he said during the inaugural session of the 1st edition of the India Gadget Expo 2014 here.

According to Chowdary, the government must look at setting up a `growth fund’ for start-ups as access to funding was a major challenge for budding entrepreneurs.

It should try to set up common labs and testing centres that will reduce the cost of manufacturing products, he added. Meanwhile, K T Rama Rao, the Telangana IT and panchayat raj minister said:

His government was looking at formulating an exclusive hardware policy to woo investors and draw attention to the expo which acts as a catalyst in drawing the attention of global chip manufacturing companies towards Hyderabad.
