Hyderabad traffic police books 29000 in drunk driving cases

Hyderabad: In the year 2018, the Hyderabad traffic police booked as many as 29,484 people for drunk driving out of which 191 are women.

According to DC report, charge-sheets were filed against 27,383 people of whom 5,441 were imprisoned. An additional 1,424 people had their licenses permanently cancelled or suspended.

In addition to drunk driving cases, 129 were jailed for violations like jumping signals, not stopping at the Zebra Crossing, 212 for using cell phone while driving, 401 for driving without license, 42 for minor driving, 19 for dangerous driving, and 11 for other M.V. Act violations.

Those who are sentenced for imprisonment were sent to Chanchalguda jail. The court imposed fine of Rs 5,88,99,500 on the traffic violators.

Anil Kumar, Additional Commissioner of police (traffic) said, “Those who were caught and convicted for drunk driving and other cases may find difficult to get government jobs, passports and visa clearances.”
