Hyderabad: TISS students quarrelled over hostel fee

HYDERABAD: Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS) has shifted its campus to Ibrahimpatnam from Rajendranagar and the administration appointed a new service provider to arrange for accommodation.

According to the report of Time of India, the student of the 2019-21 batch has quarrelled with the administration over accommodation and safety issues on its new campus.

Earlier, the administration was a mediator between students and the service provider but this year, the administration is not a part of the process.

“The new service provider has been demanding either a semester-wise or a yearly payment of hostel fees, distancing from the earlier method of monthly payments. According to the new fee revision, accommodation and mess would be only made available to students who make an upfront payment of Rs 54,650,” read a press statement issued by the TISS Students Action Committee (SAC).

Many female students are complaining about poor security on the new campus. One of the students said that there are no street lights on the way to their hostel due to which some locals are clicking pictures of the girls and recently a bike hit a girl.

While the SAC held a meeting with the administration last week, students claim that little was being done to address their concerns. When TOI contacted the local authorities for comments, they said that all decisions were centrally taken by Mumbai authorities who could not be contacted.
