Hyderabad: Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is implementing much-awaited Street Vending Policy in the city to issue identity cards to over 19,000 street vendors.
The policy will enable identifying street vendors for various zones to conduct their business without any hassle for them and also to ensure that the traffic goes unhampered. The civic body will be responsible for the identification of vendors, reports Telangana Today.
Identification cards have been issued to 19,369 vendors till date out of surveyed 26,891 street vendors by the officials. Also, they have established 384 self-help groups with these vendors.
Officials said nearly 80 zones, including red, partial and free vending zones, have been established in different areas of the city. These zones were being identified in association with traffic police, revenue and labour departments to avoid any inconvenience to residents and road users.
“Efforts are being made to issue ID cards to rest of the vendors in a month, besides intensifying measures for identification of more vending zones across the city,” said Additional Commissioner, Urban Community Development (UCD) V Bhaskara Chary.
