Hyderabad: State asks officials to carry-out major facelift in Old City within a year

Hyderabad: The Old City of Hyderabad is decked up for a large-scale facelift, as the State government is carrying out the developmental projects in the area. As a part of a major work, the historical monuments are being restored. Officials said that these works have a budget of over Rs 5,000 crore.

According to the officials, two elevated corridors had been proposed under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) at a cost of Rs 1,159 crore. Along with an expressway from the Zoo Park in Bahadurpura to the Aramgarh Junction at a cost of Rs 636 crore, says a Telangana Today report.

CM K Chandrashekhar Rao had also announced an allocation of Rs 1,000 crore for new infrastructure projects in the Old City. He had directed the officials to carry-out purification and restoration of River Musi at a cost of Rs 1,600 crore with fast-tracked work in Old City bound Hyderabad Metro Rail.

The other works to be taken in Old City are; Charminar Pedestrianisation Project, quality power supply, overcoming water shortage, road widening, repairing of iconic Kamans and the Clock Tower at Murgi Chowk. Moreover, the Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister KT Rama Rao asked officials to complete all the work within a year.

Meanwhile, appreciating the restoration of Hyderabad’s heritage, MIM MLA from Charminar, Syed Ahmed Pasha Quadri said that previous government in the undivided state were never generous towards the Old City. “The government also assured us that civic infrastructure will be improved in southern areas of the city on the lines of Hi-Tec City,” he added.
