Hyderabad: Sanitation workers trick biometric attendance using ‘synthetic’ fingerprints; sacked

Hyderabad: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) sacked nine sanitation workers on Wednesday for using ‘synthetic’ fingerprints to fool the biometric attendance system that was in place at the office of the municipal authority.

According to the News Minute, Viswajeet Kampati, Director of the Vigilance & Enforcement wing revealed that they had been receiving a lot of complaints from various sources alleging irregularities in the attendance of sanitation workers, from the last two weeks.

Based on the information, the GHMC Commissioner directed the Vigilance & Enforcement to deploy six teams. After enquiry, the investigation officials found that some of the Sanitary Field Assistants (SFA) were using synthetic fingerprints. The team caught 17 SFAs red-handed while they were committing different irregularities. According to the report, while 9 were using synthetic fingerprints, 8 others were found committing other irregularities.

Around 84 synthetic fingerprints along with biometric machines were seized from them.
