Hyderabad Sailing week inaugurated

The overflowing waters and serene climatic conditions thanks to intermittent showers have made the Hussain Sagar Lake a picture perfect locale for the 27th edition of the Hyderabad Sailing Week, which was formally inaugurated here today. Being organised by EME Sailing Association, the championship will come to a close on July 29. A colourful inauguration added zest to the event, which will witness close competitions with the best of sailors from all over the country having descended at the venue to corner glory and have a shot at national fame. The masters of the inaugural ceremonies were Maj Gen Amarjit Singh, Vice Commodore EME Sailing Association and Lt Gen S M Mehta, SM, VSM. In brief speeches they said the venue provided the perfect backdrop to the glittering extravaganza. They pointed out that Hyderabad was the preferred destination for all water sports, including sailing, rowing and yachting because of the water levels and general climatic conditions that prevail in the twin cities.

Competitions, which will begin early tomorrow morning, will be in three class categories-Radial, Standard and 4.7 while the venues will be EME Sailing Club, Secunderabad Sailing Club and Hussain Sagar Lake. UNI
