Hyderabad: A software techie from a reputed company is behind bars after his plans to rob a bank to feed his family were foiled by locals in Manikonda.
The techie-turned robber identified as David Praveen aged 45 had previously worked in Wipro as a software engineer but yesterday family pressure and responsibilities made him take the wrong move.
According to Police reports, David is a resident of OU Colony in Raidurgam and had entered Karur Vyasa Bank in Manikonda wearing a burqa and Toy gun, knife, an acid bottle, and a toy bomb to scare people.
He entered the branch manager K L Mahendra Kumar’s office and threatened him, the manager hurried out of the cabin alerting the staff.
He then threatened the staff and even assaulted the cashier who ended up giving him Rs 2.5 lakhs as per his demand.
“David assaulted cashier Shiva Shankar with his fists and forcibly took away ?2.5 lakh cash from his cabin,” reports Raidurgam inspector M Ram Babu said.
He soon escaped the bank after getting cash but the people followed him out of the bank and pelted stones at him that injured him.
In a bid to escape the mob he even tried to hide behind a car but was found and ended up getting thrashed black n blue.
The bank manager had later lodged a robbery case against David under section 392 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
The mob handed over David to the Police who later took him to the hospital to get stitches for his injuries.
When interrogated, David revealed he was working as assistant manager at Wipro in Hyderabad but later went on to join some other company.
“Four months ago he joined some other company, but the new management did not pay him salary. David claimed he could not pay rent and also pressure was mounting on him from his family as the fee of his two children was due. To come out of financial problems, David hatched a plan to rob a bank,” ACP, Madhapur, N Shyam Prasad Rao said.
The ACP further added the things he carried to scare people at the bank were a toilet cleaner, a dummy gun, dummy bomb and a kitchen knife.
