Hyderabad: rain cools city, damaging over 28,000 acres of crops

Hyderabad: city was relieved that had been suffering from the heat at the commencement of the summer by a rainstorm on Thursday. It had been recorded 4.5 mm of rain up to 8.30 pm.

According to Deccan Chronicle, there were strong winds and rain which widespread across Adilabad and Nizamabad districts and damaged over 28,000 acres of crops in Nizamabad.

In Gadwala, Maize, paddy, chilly and mango crops were ruin and brick kilns sink. Around 12,000 quintals of red gram in the market yards of Adilabad destroyed and in the farms chilly and mango crops were damaged.

Fields of mango, maize, cotton and chilly submerged in Mancherial district, it was continuous rainfall the other day too in Nizamabad district.

Kamareddy and Banswada also experienced the rain and due to it some areas faced power cuts as trees and electrical poles were uprooted.

Around 10,000 acres crops were damaged including paddy, maize, turmeric and mango in Nizamabad and Armoor. The manual officials had been alerted by the district administration of Nizamabad and Kamareddy for the crop and house destruction.

Heavy rain was recorded in Hyderabad in areas such as Kukatpally, Serillingampally, A.S. Rao Nagar, Marredpally, Erragadda, Temple Alwal, Malkajgiri, Kondapur, Sanath Nagar, Begumpet, S.R. Nagar faced the traffic jams and power cuts too.

Though the rain was for just an hour it caused blackouts in many areas as transformers and power lines were disrupted, it was a complete surprise but reduced the traffic jams. The weather department said this could repeat on March 17 too.
