Hyderabad: Heavy rains, coupled with strong winds, disrupted normal life in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad on Thursday evening. One person was killed and two others were injured in an incident of wall collapse.
The Emergency Teams of GHMC immediately swung into action and attended to various complaints of uprooting of trees and stagnation of water on roads. Winds of nearly 70 kmph uprooted 150 trees in various parts of the city causing disruption in movement of traffic during peak hours. Emergency Teams of GHMC were immediately pressed into service. Arrangements were made for evacuation of water from stagnation points. Power supply was also affected in several areas for many hours.
Principal Secretary (MA&UD) Arvind Kumar, GHMC Incharge Commissioner Bharathi Holikeri and officials of Engineering, Urban Bio-diversity and other wings immediately swung into action and monitored the relief works.
A 48-year-old man, Parashuram, was killed and two others injured when the common wall of a wines shop and scrap shop near pillar No. 316 of PVNR Express Way on the Aramgah route collapsed. The injured persons were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital. (INN)
