Hyderabad: Police personnel of Bowenpally Police Station reportedly thrashed nine youngsters including minors for creating a nuisance for 36 hours in the area.
The youngsters were celebrating the birthday of a local man in the area for over 36 hours on the road at Bowenpally on Wednesday.
As soon as the incident was highlighted by the media, an inquiry has been ordered into the incident and assistant commissioner of police (ACP), Begumpet, Ram Reddy is conducting the probe into the alleged high-handedness of Bowenpally police.
“Police picked up nine of us (local youngsters) during the birthday celebrations near Seven Temples at Chinna Thokatta area of Bowenpally around 3.30 pm yesterday,” P Sandeep Kumar, a student of Keshav Memorial Law College, said.
“They bundled us into a patrolling vehicle and took us to Bowenpally police station. At the police station, the inspector, three SIs and three constables held us down and thrashed us black and blue using fibre batons, lathis and a stick fitted with a rubber flap at its end. While a cop pressed my head down with his leg, others held my legs and they repeatedly hit on my back. When I questioned why they were hitting and abusing, I was hit on the face with a belt. They even assaulted a minor boy,” Sandeep Kumar said.
Speaking with media, Deputy commissioner of police (DCP), North Zone, Kalmeshwar Shingenavar said they received a phone call from the locals in the region who complained about nuisance caused by birthday celebrations on the road, TOI reports.
“They had been partying with loud music for over 36 hours. Despite our patrolling teams warning them several times, they did not stop it. On Wednesday evening, they were brought to the police station. After counselling them in the presence of their family members, we let them off,” the DCP added.
However, after the victims levelled allegations about third-degree treatment by police and the media highlighted it, police brass ordered an inquiry into the incident by ACP, Begumpet, Ram Reddy.
