Hyderabad: Police busts sensational TSRTC bus theft gang, 9 arrested

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, IPS, today appreciated the Afzalgunj police for tracing the Metro Express Bus of Kushaiguda Bus Depot, which was stolen from the Central Bus Station by two auto driver brothers on the night of April 24.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Saturday, the Police Commissioner said on receipt of a complaint from Jaggari Venkatesham, RTC Driver, regarding theft of the TSRTC bus, the special police teams plunged into action and traced the missing bus at Nanded in Maharashtra. The Telangana police, with the help of their counterparts in Nanded, found the stolen bus in Nanded. The special teams found that the bus was taken away by the criminal gang and it was seen crossing the bus depot at 12.03 minutes on April 24, after it was parked at 11.30 pm on the previous night.

The investigation teams followed the lead and soon discovered that the bus was heading towards Toopran and rushed the teams to the spot for causing enquiries. Once they got to know from the eye witnesses that the bus was on its way to Nanded of

Maharashra, additional police teams were rushed to Nanded. Based on the leads in evidence, the police could locate a place where the stolen bus was taken with the help of towing crane after it broke down en route, near Bokar, 60 km away from Nanded.

On reaching the spot, the dismembered parts of the stolen RTC bus were found in tact. Assistance of the local police was obtained and nabbed the accused persons responsible for stripping the bus into pieces for selling it as scrap and to make money. The police arrested nine persons in the case and recovered the dismantled parts of the bus.

The accused were identified as Syed Abed, Auto Driver, residing at Jamai Osmania Railway Station, Chilkalguda, his brother Syed Zehad 24, also Auto Driver, Mohammed Naweed, 21, Scrap Work, of Hyderbagh, Dhegloor Naaka, Nanded District, Maharashtra State, Farooq of Nanded, (absconding), Mohammed Zubair alias Sameer, 25, Gas Cutting Worker of Degloor Naka, Nanded District, Mohd. Omer, 27, Syed Salman alias Arbaz 22, Mohd. Shafiq, 23, Md. Kaleem Bagwan, 23. Most of them gas cutting workers dismantled the bus at a workshop near Bharat Petrol Pump, Martal, Nanded District.

The police recovered Destination Board of Bus br. no. AP 11 Z 6254 (Route: Ambedkar Nagar to Afzalgunj) , Cabins (Side, Left and Right Cabins) , Chasis (Back Side Part), Body of the Bus with Engine , Seats – 45 (Sl. No’s 1 to 5 belongs stolen Bus Br.No: AP 11 Z 6254) , Gas cutting Cylinders with Gas Cutter Pipes – 3 , Commercial Cylinder-1 , Ring Paana – 2 , Honda Unicorn br. no. MH 14 GE 3551 , Auto rickshaw br. no. MH 26 H 2588 (Sl. No’s 6 to 10 are seized from possession of the accused which were used in the commission of the offence) and Cash of Rs. 19,500.

During the interrogation, the accused who admitted their guilt were produced before the court.

The CP said had the police not reached the spot in time, there wouldn’t have been any traces of evidence of the stolen vehicle. Hence the good work and the swift investigation and nabbing of the accused by the Afzalgunj police under the leadership of the ACP Sultan Bazar is highly appreciated. The good work of police personnel of Afzalgunj PS under the supervision of Devender, Asst. Commissioner of Police will be appreciated with suitable rewards, he added.
