Hyderabad: Mother sells 2-month-old baby for Rs 10,000

Hyderabad: Fearing that she could not bring up the child alone, wife of a drunkard husband allegedly sold her two month old baby boy to a couple for Rs 10,000 in Secunderabad. She was arrested by the police on the basis of a complaint lodged by the woman’s husband.

As per the report published in Deccan Chronicle the police arrested her and rescued the child. 21-year-old P. Kavitha, a resident of Tukaramgate, earlier decided to dump the child but when she went to Secunderabad railway station to execute her plan, she met a woman named M. Sumalatha, who after listening to her problem suggested selling the baby, instead of abandoning him.

Sumalatha introduced to Kavitha a childless couple from Mancherial. The couple agreed to buy the child. Kavitha handed over the child on April 4 to T. Anjali and her husband T. Ramesh, a teacher.

Later when her husband P. Raju asked her for their child, she told him that she had sold the baby. Raju lodged a complaint with the police. Police booked a case against Kavitha, Anjali, Ramesh and the mediator under the Juvenile Justice Act.
