Hyderabad: Million March today, mass arrests going on

The government has not given permission to the Telangana JAC proposed Million March, which turned Telangana movement to a peak stage, annual celebrations to be held on March 10. The police resorted to pre-arrests of JAC leaders as they announced that they will organise Million March annual celebrations. The arrests of leaders were going on since Thursday night.

Condemning the arrests of leaders, TJAC chairman Prof. M Kodandaram warned that the state government would not suppress the democratic aspirations of people. He demanded the state government to release the leaders arrested by the police. It may be mentioned here that Kodandaram thought that he would announce his new political party on the occasion of annual celebrations of Million March.

TJAC and CPI urged the police to give permission to the Million March Spoorthy Sabha on Tank Bund on March 10. CPI state secretary Chada Venkat Reddy has urged the central zone police on March 2 on behalf on Telangana JAC to give permission to organise ‘Aata, Maata, Paata’ program. However, the central zone DCP stated that it was not possible to give permission to the program as the venue was at centre of the city. The police said that traffic zam will take place and people would face troubles as the students were writing their examinations.

The police reminded that the anti-social elements entered into the Million March and created destruction. Several people received injuries during Million March and the people faced inconvenience and the police filed criminal cases against many people then. The police made it clear that it was not possible to give permission for the Million March Spoorthy Sabha keeping the past experiences in view. (NSS)
