Hyderabad Metro Rail will assure last mile connectivity: NVS Reddy

Multi modal transport integration and seamless travel are the two critical areas Hyderabad Metro Rail project is concentrating on to provide the last mile connectivity to the Metro Rail commuters, stated HMRL Managing Director NVS Reddy while participating in the panel discussion on ‘Future Mobility challenges and solutions’ at the Traffic Infratech expo in Hitex Convention Centre here.

Explaining as to how the Hyderabad Metro Rail project is different from the other  Metro Rail projects in the country, he said that Hyderabad Metro project is one of the best Metros in the world with very advanced technologies including CBTC (Communication Based Train Control) technology, reduction in energy consumption, single pillar supported balanced cantilever stations, etc.

Reddy gave a power-point presentation on the unique features of the project and stressed on the importance of smart ticketing, smart parking and smart commute to the citizens. He explained how the space below the viaduct is being utilized for building skywalks for safe movement of Metro commuters and for increasing business efficiency of Hyderabad city. MD, HMRL also explained as to how the city is being rejuvenated as a smart global city as per the vision of the Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Responding to a question from a participant if the project is also considering TOD (Transit Oriented Development), he said that TOD policy is already in place with declaration of 300 mts on both sides of the Metro corridors as TOD zone, with certain building relaxations and that Metro malls are being constructed at a few Metro stations for the convenience of commuters.  Smart parking facilities are being provided at most of the Metro stations, he mentioned.

Later NVS Reddy visited different stalls and examined fully automated parking technologies, smart mobility apps, lane marking print machines, road safety devices, barrier & boom gates, etc. and held discussions with some companies to introduce some of these latest high tech facilities in Hyderabad. (INN)
