Hyderabad: Metro Rail in Old City will chug soon

Hyderabad: Municipal & IT Minister KT Rama Rao today informed Assembly during question hour that the previous Congress government had only accorded permission to Metro Rail alignment by removing Gun park area and the works are taken apace. KTR informed that the Metro Rail will be started soon in the old city as works are being grounded.

The minister was replying to questions of the Congress leaders Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Sridhar Babu on changes in the metro agreement and delay of the works. KTR said Hyderabad Metro Rail project works were going on in a fast pace in the country compared to other metro rail works. He also said a total of 66 km length metro rail works will be completed by December. “We are to complete the HMR project as planned despite huge funds. So far, the government invested Rs 14,132 crore for the metro rail works and Rs 3,000 crore more for land acquisition”, he added.

Stating that the Metro Rail works were being expedited to reach the target, the minister said the Hyderabad Metro Rail has so far received 80 awards.

The HMR is the biggest public-private partnership project in the country, he said. He said the Metro Rail was setting new records as many as three lakh people were taking metro rail every day.
