HYDERABAD: Nowadays, drug peddlers are ditching conventional methods of smuggling marijuana and adopting new ways.
Two people were held on Saturday after Telangana excise department officials in Medchal-Malkajgiri district conducted raids and seized 1400 marijuana chocolates.
According to the excise department, the drugged sweets were wrapped in normal chocolate covers.
“We first conducted a raid on a betel shop where 80 marijuana chocolates were recovered,” Balanagar Prohibition and Excise station inspector Jeevan Kiran said.
“After being caught once, the accused in this case decided to change their modus operandi and began preparing marijuana chocolates, so that they could sell it to customers more easily. Based on a tip-off, we raided the pan shop and found a few packets with 40 chocolates each,” the official said to The News Minute.
He said that as many as 1320 marijuana chocolates were recovered in another raid on a shop located in Balanagar area of the district.
“After questioning him, we conducted another raid at a warehouse where we found 33 such packets. We have seized 1,400 chocolates in total with marijuana weighing 9.4 kg inside them,” he added.
A case was registered and the accused were sent to Judicial remand.
