Hyderabad, June 20: The Hyderabad police held a workshop at the Goshamahal stadium here and gave tips to major IT companies regarding the additional security measures to be taken in the face of the enhanced threat perception to them.
Andhra Home Minister Sabitha Reddy, who has repeatedly spoken of securing the state against terror attacks since she took over, had asked IT companies in Hyderabad to tighten security measures and told the city police to organise an awareness programme to sensitise the employees and the management of the companies.
The programme was organised by the City Security Wing and saw Kripanand Tripathi Ujela, Joint Commissioner (C&S), R B Naik, Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) and Moosa-Bin-Ibrahim, Assistant Commissioner (Administration) give power point presentations on the steps to be taken by IT companies.
The meeting also saw a discussion on the security lapses in 2007 with the blasts at Mecca Masjid, Lumbini park and Gokul Chat House being reviewed. With Hyderabad high on the terror list, security agencies are of the view that IT companies here maybe one of the prime targets.
The companies were asked to employ security personnel with gun licences or former Army personnel and undertake mandatory security arrangements like hiring enough security men, providing electronic gadgets like door frame walk through metal detectors (DFMD) and hand-held metal detectors at entry points, solar-powered electric fencing, checking vehicles with an undercarriage search mirror, CC Camera surveillance system etc.
The following are some other tips provided by the police:
•In bigger companies baggage scanners, anti-sabotage check teams with sniffer dogs can be put to use.
•It is necessary that the antecedents of all employees including security personnel should be checked by outsourcing through private agencies.
•Sufficient number of trained security personnel must to be employed.
•Vehicle movement should be regulated and monitored. Proper parking arrangements should be made and a responsible person employed to look after parking.
