The inaugural edition of the SBH Baseball Premier League (BPL) will take off at RRC Grounds in Secunderabad on June 7.
Modelled after the hugely successful Indian Premier League, the ensuing championship is positioned to give fillip to the American national sport in India. This was disclosed at a press conference in Hyderabad on Tuesday by former Member of Parliament and President of the Amateur Baseball Federation of India (ABFI), Ramakant S Angle and C V Pratap, the Organising Secretary of the event. They said six teams with players drawn from across the country will be seen in action during the four-day event, which conclude on June 10. Four-matches of two hours each will be held on each of the four-days in league format.
The top finisher in terms of aggregate of points would be declared the winner. The League opener will feature BVM Group Pirates and Pro-fit Smashers.
The other four teams include Mylan Yankees, Abhijeet Dodgers, Karvy Braves and CEA Giants. The BPL extravaganza will be inaugurated by Katherine S Dhanani, Consul General, Consulate General of the United States of America. UNI
