Elaborate security arrangements will be put in place to ensure that Telangana activists do not create trouble during Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s visit to the city to attend the CoP-11 meet on October 16.
Briefing the media about the security arrangements on Monday, Hyderabad police commissioner Anurag Sharma said tight security arrangements have been made for the PM’s visit.
A posse of police personnel, including a specialised VVIP security team, Special Protection Group (SPG) personnel and intelligence sleuths would be guarding all places which the PM is to visit.
“As of now, we are not expecting any trouble from protesters, but foolproof security arrangements will be in place,” Sharma said.
Cyberabad police commissioner Ch Dwaraka Tirumala Rao said that, so far, about 10,000 delegates from 193 countries have reached the city. On Monday alone, 5,000 delegates arrived in the city, he added.
The delegates are ferried from the airport or hotels to the venue every day in about 240 buses and each bus is escorted by a specially-trained traffic cop, wearing Navy blue trousers and sky blue shirt. The escort team has been trained in soft skills and in handling wireless sets.
For non-stop movement of the delegates’ vehicles to the venue, police of both the commissionerates were using a CoP-11 communication channel. At an expense of Rs 30 lakhs, the city police has purchased new wireless sets, traffic cones and barricades for efficient vehicular management during the global meet. Bomb disposal (BD) squads were working round-the-clock to prevent any untoward incident at hotels or at the venue. Stationary police teams have been deployed at hotels where the delegates are staying.
For smooth passage of delegates to the venue, the Cyberabad commissioner has imposed traffic restrictions from October 8 to 19.
As per the restrictions, applicable between 7am to 10am and again from 5pm to 8pm, traffic heading towards Gachibowli from Madhapur will be diverted at Cyber Towers towards Hi-Tec City, Mind Space rotary. Traffic moving to Madhapur, KPHB, and Jubilee Hills from Kothaguda will be diverted at CII rotary towards TCS junction.
