Hyderabad: HC stays demolition of Errum Manzil

Hyderabad: Telangana High Court today directed the State government to stay the demolishing of Errum Manzil building until further orders are initiated.

“As the subject matter is before the court, we expect that the government will respect the oral orders of the court,’’ the court said, TNIE reports.

A batch of PILs was filed before the court seeking direction against State government’s decision to demolish Errum Manzil to build a new Assembly building in its place.

The bench passed orders in the PILs filed separately by several people. Another PIL was also filed by Noori Muzaffar Hussain and seven others, who claimed themselves as legal heirs of Nawab Safdar Jung Musheer-ud-daula Fakrul Mulk, who built Errum Manzil, against the demolition of the structure.

The matter came up for hearing yesterday, Additional Advocate General J Ramachandra Rao urged the court to grant two weeks time for filing counter affidavit but since the bench was inclined to issue status quo orders on the demolition of the building, the AAG sought time until the afternoon for arguing and filing counter affidavit.

When the case hearing resumed in the afternoon, Advocate C Prabhakar argued before the bench that the State government was abusing its power by resorting to the demolition of Errum Manzil which is 100 years old and was categorized as a heritage structure.

Hearing the advocate B Rachna Reddy also appearing for petitioners, the bench in its oral orders directed the state government not to take any adverse steps on Errum Manzil issue until the case was decided by the court.
