Hyderabad: Govt. school making students child labourers

Hyderabad: Authorities of a primary school in Chhawni Nade Ali Baig in Old City forced their students to fetch potable water from a public tap. Three students fetching water was filmed by a few onlookers on Wednesday.

The videos showed three students of the Government Primary School Chhawni Nade Ali Baig located at Dabeerpura, clad in their school uniforms, holding a steel pot filled with water and struggling to carry it from the tap to their school.

MBT spokesman Amjedullah Khan told that the teachers ordered students to collect water from a public source and bring it to the school. He lamented that the school that serves midday meal has no water for students to drink.

He called for government’s immediate action to make provisions for the supply of water to the school and for stern action against the school authorities.

DC has quoted him as saying “The government, without providing proper facilities, is forcing students to turn into child labourers. If a person employs a child, a case is registered against him.”
