Hyderabad: Govt. to introduce Intelligent Traffic Management System – Here’s how it works

Hyderabad: The citizens of Hyderabad are now not only required to control the speed of their vehicles but also their tongues.
With the introduction of Intelligent Traffic Management System, the city of Hyderabad would become the pioneering city to introduce it. The system will involve the installation of a network of CCTV cameras. It is expected that this system would be completed by the end of December.
The trial of the project has been completed. It is reported that the first phase of making Hyderabad city secure and beautiful has been completed. Roads and basic infrastructural facilities, skyways, major traffic junctions have been given importance for security arrangements.
With these steps, citizens will get ensured their security. At places where traffic constables are not available, anyone violating traffic rules or committing any crime will have to pay a huge prize. This system will help control crimes.
Under the safe and smart city program, with the help of Automatic Traffic Counter cum Classification, the speed of the vehicles and the conversations of the commuters could be recorded. With the introduction of this system, Hyderabad city will fall in line with selected Asian cities where such technology is in use.
Mr. Narasing Rao, Inspector of Police Command Control informed that CCTV cameras have already been installed at major traffic junctions of the city where the speed of the vehicles and their conversations could be recorded. These cameras would be linked to the digital soundboard. They would furnish the details of the traffic ahead to the commuters. In case of traffic jam, the commuters would be advised to divert their routes. These cameras would be connected to command control room.
So far, 3000 cameras have been installed. Under the safe and smart city program, there is a provision for the installation of 10000 cameras.
Hyderabad city already had 300 cameras at major traffic junctions.
For the installation of Intelligent Traffic Management System, a tender was invited in 2016. The work has been allotted to L &T Company. The estimated cost of this project is Rs. 100 crore.
