Hyderabad: The GHMC officials have seized popular Biryani restaurant ‘Bawarchi’ located at RTC Crossroads on Monday after it failed to install mandatory vermicompost unit.
Despite several Red notices issued to the management instructing them to install the vermicompost unit, the GHMC officials on Monday said the hotel did not follow the rules on vermicompost installation despite several notices and sufficient time granted to the management, tt reports.
“Hence, Bawarchi was seized on Monday afternoon,” said Musheerabad Deputy Municipal Commissioner G. Uma Prakash.
According to sources, Bawarchi restaurant generates over 100 kg waste on every day basis for which the management was directed to take necessary steps to install the units but failing which the restaurant was seized on Monday.
However, the restaurant management claimed to have installed the unit by night but instructions were issued from Head Office not to permit the management to reopen the eatery till Tuesday, she informed.
As per the Solid Waste Management rules, all the bulk garbage generators like hotels, restaurants, function halls and others have to install vermicompost unit in their premises. This facilitates in effective handling of garbage, besides generating vermicompost.
Not only Bawarchi was issued notice but the GHMC officials have issued notices to 30 other eateries and hotels in Musheerabad circle.
Hotels like Crystal, Astoria, Sangam promised to install the vermicompost units by Monday night failing which the action will be initiated against them accordingly said GHMC official.
“Inspections will be conducted in other hotels and restaurants on Tuesday as well,” said GHMC official Uma Prakash.
In a similar incident, the Kukatpally circle officials seized Sahara Cafe and Restaurant, Nizampet and levied a penalty of Rs.20,000 on Tripura Bar and Restaurant for failing to install compost units and for unhygienic conditions in the premises.
