Hyderabad: Punishing students to discipline them or corporal punishment as we call it, is becoming problematic for schools with protective parents taking criminal action against staff, authorities for punishing the child.
A Residential school located in Shamirpet issued TC to one of its students after the ward’s father registered a police complaint against one of the staff members, TOI reports.
His father Satish Kumar K, who lodged the complaint with Shamirpet police, said the chairman of the school directed him to take the transfer certificate and leave after he filed a complaint against Hostel warden for fracturing his son’s hand.
“Although the classes began from March 4, I went to the school on March 6 to find out about the hostel fee and joining of my son. However, instead of giving the details, the school principal directed me to speak to the chairman. I met the chairman, who asked me to take the transfer certificate and make my son join some other school,” Kumar said alleging the hostel warden punished him for not switching off the light after 9.30pm.
“My son told me that he had switched on the light to search for his lost key. Even though my son informed the same to the hostel warden, he punished him with a stick.”
The incident was condemned by many child rights activists who demanded the Education department to initiate action against the school.
“The school is violating the Right to Education Act and this issue should be dealt with very seriously,” said Achyuta Rao, honorary president, Balala Hakula Sangham, adding that instead of punishing the warden/teacher, the school is punishing the student.
