Hyderabad faces acute drinking water scarcity

Even as the two big drinking water reservoirs Nagarjuna Sagar (Krishna) and Yellampally reservoirs (Godavari) has reached dead storage level, Hyderabad Metropolitan Water supply and sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has begun emergency measures to prevent serious water crisis. Water board has begun emergency pumping arrangements at Puttamgandi station in Nalgonda by installing 10 emergency pumping motors to draw water from the dead storage level of Nagarjuna Sagar.

Water board has begun digging earth near Yellampally reservoir earth for making an emergency lead channel at Murmur to draw water. Greater Hyderabad will be supplied water through pumping at this place in three phases. Krishna and Godavari are the major sources of water to Hyderabad and surrounding villages. The other 4 water reservoirs Osman Sagar, Himayat Sagar, Singur and Manjeera have also dried up.
