Hyderabad: Drunken man stabs pet dog to death

Hyderabad: In an appalling incident, a pet dog was reportedly hacked to death by a drunken man who stabbed him multiple times with a sickle at Medchal this Sunday evening.

The gruesome act was witnessed by a couple who rushed to the dog’s help after it tried escaping and rushed to hide in the bathroom after the man attacked him, TOI reports

The incident came to light when NS Pravalika, founder of Compassionate Society for Animals (CSA), an animal welfare NGO based in Ghatkesar, filed a complaint with the Rachakonda police.

“We received a call from the owner of the dog around 7pm on Sunday and we were told that the dog was attacked with a sickle. We immediately rushed to the spot and saw the dog bleeding profusely. The cuts were so big and deep that the animal’s internal organs were visible,” said Pravalika.

The accused threatened to kill the couple who rushed to the dog’s help when he was trying to enter the bathroom.

“The drunk man stabbed the dog with a sickle. Me and my husband saw him attacking the dog and tried to stop him, but he was not in a condition to listen. We were told that he attacked the dog because it tried to bite him,” said witness Premalatha Reddy.

N Rama Shiva the dog’s owner said the accused allegedly dragged the dog out of the bathroom and attacked him with the sickle again.

“He killed my dog for no reason. Even in pain, my dog was wagging its tail when I was calling its name. The incident happened at around 4pm when I was not at home. There were multiple injuries on the animal’s body.”

Though the dog was rushed to a clinic in Medipally by Pravalika and Shiva, he died while undergoing treatment.

A case has been registered under Section 429 (Mischief by killing or maiming cattle) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC and Section 11(1)(a) of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1970.

Sub-inspector CH Shekar said the accused will soon be taken into custody.
