Hyderabad: One pedestrian was killed and four members of a family were grievously injured when an LPG cylinder exploded due to gas leakage in a house in Kapra circle here on Friday morning.
The explosion occurred on the second floor of a building and due to its impact, the house collapsed and the debris from the building fell on a local man identified as Ravi, who suffered grievous head injury and died on the spot. The Kushaiguda police and the Fire Service officials rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control. The injured were shifted to a hospital.
Mayor assures assistance
On receipt of the information, Mayor Bonthu Rammohan and his Deputy Baba Fasiuddin visited the house of the victims and announced Rs 2 lakh ex gratia to the kin of the deceased Ravi from the GHMC funds. Besides, the kin would be paid additional ex gratia of Rs one lakh from the Apathbandhu scheme, the Mayor added. The Mayor also enquired about the incident with the officials on the spot and instructed the GHMC Enforcement wing, police and Fire department to initiate rehabilitation efforts immediately.
The cylinder blast appeared to have caused by negligence in handling the gas cylinder, he said, adding that those injured in the incident were being treated in a private hospital in Secunderabad.
