Hyderabad Cricket Association under scanner for irregularities

Public interest litigation (PIL) has been filed in the Hyderabad High Court seeking a CBI probe into the alleged irregularities committed by the management of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).

The petition was filed by M Mahesh Yadav, a social activist from Medak district, contending that HCA had flouted rules during the sale of tickets for the 2007 international match in Hyderabad resulting in huge losses.
Even ACB sleuths found irregularities in terms of purchase of various equipment securing defense land and award of contracts, the petitioner added.

In spite of a legal ruling, the officials of cricket associations also fall under the purview of public servants and thereby covered under the prevention of corruption Act, no action was taken on the representations made to the authorities, he added.

The petitioner urged the court to set up an independent committee to look into the affairs of the HCA. The chief secretary of Telangana state, ACB director general, Ranga Reddy district collector, HCA secretary and others were named as respondents.

The case is expected to come up for hearing on Monday.
