Hyderabad: CM’s Iftar party uncertain

Hyderabad: Election Commission has permitted Government of Telangana to distribute gift packets for Ramadan after 18th May with a condition that no political leader should be invited for such functions.

Collectors of the districts will monitor the distribution of gift packets and the concerned officials will monitor the arrangements of Iftar in various masajid. It is expected that Iftar and gift packets distributions will be organized in 800 masajid in addition to 32 orphanages.

Official sources indicated that for the Iftar party to be hosted by CM of TS, arrangements are being made to send a letter to Election Commission for seeking permission.

It is reported that all the steps of local body elections would be completed by 25th May and the results would be declared on 27th May. It is expected that Election Commission might permit the CM for hosting Iftar party on any day after 25th May. In the same manner, Governor of TS may also seek permission for hosting Iftar party at Raj Bhavan.

It may be mentioned that in view of the elections of three MLC seats, election code of conduct will be in vogue till 7th June but the officials say that this restriction will not be applicable on Hyderabad since the MLC seats are for Warangal, Nalgonda and Ranga Reddy Districts.

Meanwhile, some of the TRS leaders are not in favour of hosting Iftar party on behalf of CM since the campaign for boycotting this party by the Muslims is making rounds. If any person raises the issue of dismantling the Masjid-e-Ek Khana of Amberpet, CM will be perplexed.
